Japanese Typesetting

Japanese typesetting presents more challenges than typesetting in European languages. The Japanese language is written with a combination of three different scripts: modified Chinese characters, and two syllabic scripts made up of modified Chinese characters. The Latin alphabet is also often used in modern Japanese, especially for company names. Western style Indian numerals are generally used for numbers, but traditional Sino-Japanese numerals are also commonplace. Special fonts are required to typeset in Japanese and LS-Localise holds a selection of Japanese fonts.

LS-Localise has been providing a Japanese typesetting service since 1989, so if you are seeking a Japanese typesetting company you need look no further, our service is first rate and wide ranging. We will translate any text into Japanese , and then, after proofreading, our studio will typeset the new Japanese document. With Japanese it is not usually possible to match the typeface used in other language versions, but we will obviously match the style, i.e. serif / sans serif, formal / informal. Delivery would normally be by high resolution PDF, Illustrator or EPS files, with all of the Japanese text outlined to avoid any problems with fonts. We can also deliver the job as an InDesign or Quark document, again with outlined Japanese text in position.

Responsive Japanese typesetting

Because we do all of our Japanese typesetting in-house (which is very unusual in the language industry) we are able to respond very quickly to the inevitable authors' amendments which arise with any typesetting work! We nearly always deliver small corrections to typeset jobs within a few hours, or even immediately if asked. We have a very high speed internet connection and our clients can download their Japanese artwork files from a secure ftp server at a speed of 50Mb/sec (if their connection is fast enough).

Reliability and Security

We also have the hardware infrastructure necessary to give a fast and reliable service to our clients. All clients' typesetting work is held on a redundant RAID 5 disc cluster, with continuous on-line multi-variant backup. This means that we can retrieve any file even if it was accidentally deleted from the main server. We also provide white-label hosting of Japanese websites, or indeed websites in any language, which we are localising for our agency clients, so that their clients can view sites which are under development, remaining unaware of our involvement in the Japanese website localisation process.
